It is rumored that there will be no new version of the Galaxy Note for 2021. Sources close to Samsung Electronics have told Reuters that they will not be releasing the new Galaxy Note, one of the company’s premium phone series, next year. Coronavirus outbreak could also lead to declining demand for high-end smartphones.
The Galaxy Note series is one of Samsung’s two premium phone series, and has a larger screen and stylus for writing notes than the Galaxy S series. According to three sources, Samsung has no plans to release a Galaxy Note version for 2021.
The Galaxy Note series will not be released, but the Galaxy S series will be upgraded. Next year’s Galaxy S21 will feature a stylus, and Samsung’s new foldable phone will reportedly have a stylus. The stylus will be sold separately.
Tom Khan, a researcher at market research firm Counterpoint, estimates that sales of the Galaxy Note series will drop between 5 million and 8 million this year, while the S series will drop from 5 million to less than 30 million. Demand for premium phones has fallen this year, and many are no longer buying new phones, he said.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Note series in 2011. Coming with a large screen size, this series has changed the market. In the same year that the Galaxy Note series was launched, Samsung overtook Apple to become the world’s largest smartphone maker.
