Honor plans to launch 100 million smartphones next year

Honor phone production will increase by 40%.Honor, once a sub-brand of Huawei, is expected to accelerate shipments by 2021.Honor, under Zhixin New Information Technology, plans to launch 100 million smartphones by 2021, according to Nikkei Asia. The company has also notified US suppliers.

Honor plans to increase smartphone production by 40 percent, but will need to seek approval from the US government. The company is currently a non-Huawei independent smartphone business, but will have to follow the US government’s decision.

The company is in talks with US chipmaker Qualcomm to buy the chipset, and an agreement will be reached soon. Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek says it is working to bring Honor to the chipset.

Honor is a low-cost phone brand launched by Huawei in 2013. Huawei is reportedly planning to ship nearly 60 million phones by 2021. In other words, both Huawei and Honor shipments next year will drop about 20 percent of Huawei’s 2019 phone production.Neither Huawei nor Honor has commented on the 2021 phone shipments.
