Apple overtakes Huawei to become world’s second largest phone company
Huawei is no longer the world’s second-largest phone maker by 2020. Apple has overtaken Huawei as the world’s second-largest phone maker by 2020, according to a new research report by Counterpoint Research and Canalys. Huawei overtook Apple to become the world’s largest smartphone maker after Samsung in 2019.
According to Counterpoint Research, the Chinese smartphone maker will drop 21% of its smartphone shipments by 2020 after a series of US trade sanctions. In the fourth quarter of 2020, Huawei dropped out of the list of the world’s top five mobile phone companies.
According to Canalys, this is the first time in the last six years that Huawei has not been included in the top five phone companies. Huawei is currently seen as the third-largest phone maker in China due to domestic sales, but Xiaomi, which is expanding into the international market, will overtake it. Xiaomi expanded its international market by 2020 more than in 2019, and smartphone shipments are up 17%.
